I am running win 10.1 on a gateway computer with 4GB of storage and a 64-bit system. I would basically like a product to monitor a home network where there have been incursions. Is Speed Meter the 'successor' to Network Magic, or does it cover different information?

Yes, the software can be used as an alternative to Speed Meter Pro, but it only displays a few things about the operations on a network regarding connecting IPs, activity, etc. Network Magic was a good product, but too bad that it has been discontinued.

While I don't recommend any of them, Speed Meter Pro can be used as a basic application. If you need a more powerful one, then the products offered by the GFI are recommended: http://www.gfi.com/products-and-solutions/network-security-solutions/gfi-languard
